I Enjoy Going to Work Everyday

During the Memorial Day holiday I had the privilege of spending time with family. There’s nothing better than having a few days with family, especially my grandchildren. I also had an opportunity to do some fishing with my son, Rob. This is always a delight as this is special time for father and son. We have a chance to talk about everything and catch up on all that is happening in our lives.

One morning Rob made this statement, “You’re one of the few people that I know who really enjoys his work. Most people work for a paycheck and watch the clock.” This is not the first time Rob has made this statement or said something similar. So, it started me to thinking about my work and why I really enjoy going to work every day. As you read the list it may provide you with some thoughts about your work.

This is why I enjoy going to work each day, and I should add that these are only a few of the reasons:

• My work with the Georgia Baptist Convention gives me the opportunity to fulfill God’s calling for my life. I am called to ministry.

• Each day I work with good people who are also called to ministry and who share common beliefs and goals. As I visit offices in the building as well as across the state I know I am with friends.

• It is a blessing beyond measure to work with the Executive Leadership Team, Dr. White, Mike Williams, Toby Howell, Kevin Smith, and Steve Parr. We share a wonderful working relationship and we are friends who enjoy many common interests.

• For 14 years I served as the State Sunday School Director and for nine years have served as Vice President for Ministries. I never imagined I would have this privilege.

• I work on the foundation of those who have gone before me. I hesitate to list the names because I know I would leave someone out. But you and I should know that there were others who served effectively before we came along.

• Working with the Convention takes me to churches and places that I probably would never have an opportunity to visit otherwise. I have friends all over the state.

• The Convention works in partnership with associations and churches of Georgia and with the entities of the Southern Baptist Convention to reach the world for Christ.

• The Executive Committee of the Georgia Baptist Convention provides the resources to meet the needs of my family. I have adequate health insurance and benefits, which have and will continue to bless my family and me.

• I know I work among friends and work can’t get any better than working with people you like to be around!
